So...today I get a call from a friend, and he tells me about a facebook ad for an operational forge and blower set up. I call on it, and its less than fifteen minutes after they had placed the ad, so my buddy musta caught it right when the ad hit facebook. So, I am strapped for money, so I rounded up my neighbor, who also wants to set up for blacksmithing, and we head out. Destination, less than 8 miles away.

Upshot, a fully functional forge with a Buffalo Forge blower, plus a Champion 400 plower, frozen, with a bent gear, on an excellent stand with the proper mounting casting for a Champion blower. With extra parts.Seeing as how I already have a good Champion 400 blower, missing a stand...

So...imagine how floored my neighbor and I were when the guy gave us a price? 140 bucks. And he helped us load it.

The last pic is of the stand, with my good 400 mounted on it. The penultimate pic is the damaged 400, with its extra parts.

But whats weird is this blacksmithing stuff is kinda just falling out of the sky lately, for unbeatable prices. Between the time I called this guy, and we made it to his front door, he said he had recieved 5 calls on it. Early bird gets the worm.

140 bucks??? Won't get a deal like that ever again.

(That big round thing under the pan ain't got nothing to do with anything, its just under there to save room in the yard.)

Nice setup. I'd love to find one in that price range. What do you plan on forging?

Bear in mind Don, that it is now my neighbor's not mine. I had no cash yesterday, and rather than let it escape.....

But, I'm sure I can use it, and eventually I'll find a pan of my own, or build a brake rotor pan.

I'd like to forge furniture and cabinetry hardware, and decorative framing and deck bracketry.

Paul...the local cement plant burns coal. They buy it by the train car loads, and I know three or four guys that work there, as well as a few waitresses whose husbands work there. You know how that works, eh? So, yeah, I have a few five gallon buckets full, and more where that came from. Heres a pic of the shoulder of the road that passes the plant. See that pile of black stuff?

"penultimate".  I love it.  Oh, and the finds are cool, even though I know less about forging than I do about Latin.
