There is always a debate on how much to restore old hand tools. I find that its usually up to the user and buyer.
Once in a while it comes down to a good cleaning and nothing else. I just started using something that is cheap and easy. Goop. That's right the old standby for mechanics everywhere. I don't know why I didn't think of sooner. Eco-friendly non toxic biodegradable and a couple of bucks at the big box orange store. You don't even have to wear gloves. Does a pretty good job.

I have been using dawn dish soap and hot water. I'll try the goop and see if it does better. The dawn does surprisingly well.
